Clayton Christensen, How Will You Measure Your Life? Harvard Business Review, July 2010 A suck-sess by some external and arbitrary metric..right….sure… |
‘Birdman’ was a near perfect film. I definitely prefer it to ‘The Revenant’. I admire the cinematography and the acting in The Revenant – Leo’s acting was in my opinion outstanding – but there are at least two very strong contenders within that category (and I say that without considering Redmayne as I haven’t seen The Danish Girl yet). To be frank I think that the story of Glass and Fitzgerald is far more fascinating than the one portrayed through Iñárritu’s film direction. I thought it was a decent movie and visually it was stunning – but I don’t know that I’d call it the best film of the year or anything that compares to Birdman. Then again as I’ve said I don’t know that any film nominated for best picture this year is outstanding. A lot of films that are very ‘Hollywood’ - and by that I mean ‘safe’, by every standard of the word. I found the Revenant to be surprisingly safe in many ways as well.
Birdman: a tedious retread of overused themes appealing to the geriatric set. Well acted but devoid of relevant or fresh content. Just…..tedious.
Revenet, on the other hand, w as indwed stunning visually and did not rely on a sanctiminious and tired script. A fresh and engaging film also very well acted.
